Now We Can Feel Safe

In light of the recent attempts to bring down a US Airliner, I came across this article on Google.

Amazing the lengths we will go to feel safe.

Washington (Journal-Constitution News Service) The recent attempt by Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab [pictured here] to blow up Northwest Flight 253 has led the Administration of Barack Obama to institute new procedures aimed at reducing the likelihood of another terrorist attempt against the American Airline industry and the American people.

Prodded into action by administration critics such as Missouri Representative Candace Miller who called the recent actions an "Act of war against the US" yesterday President Obama announced new regulations, effective January 15, 2010, that will "...end air terrorism as we know it." The new rules will bar airline travel for all citizens of the United States, except for government officials and members of Congress.

Ray LaHood, Secretary of Transportation, acknowledging the Draconian nature of these regulations said that while the new regulations are "very restrictive, and will make air travel a thing of the past for many in America, they will help us prevent another terrorist attack of this type.”

Reaction from the more conservative members of Congress was both swift and supportive. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky), speaking for the GOP caucus, praised the administration for the new regulations saying “The Republican Party strongly supports President Obama and his administration in their common sense efforts to combat terrorism and safeguard the American people. There should be no sacrifice we will not make to ensure our freedom and safety”

But not all reaction was positive. Senator Harry Reid of Nevada quickly pointed out that the new restrictions will effectively end air travel as we know it. But when questioned by Sean Hannity of FOX News whether the new rules would in fact make Americans safer, Reid was forced to admit that yes they would.

Under fierce questioning from Bill O’Reilly on his FOX News show, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca) also conceded the reality that the new rules will limit opportunities for Islamic Jihadists to attack the United States. But she also vowed to pass a bill to thwart the Administration attempts to place these limits on air travel.

When asked how Americans, who have become used to easy inexpensive air travel would adjust, President Obama responded that “…all Americans ought to be willing to put up with a few inconveniences for the safety and security that these common sense solutions will bring.”

Don't the terrorists win when they make such a profound difference in our freedoms? We are letting a few change the lives of many.

Blogger James' Muse said ... (1:28 PM) :

I'm hoping this is satirical, Dave...

Blogger Dave Miller said ... (1:31 PM) :

Beth, they have in fact won. Every little bit of our freedoms that we allow to be chipped away in the name of national security, are just as important to us "libs" as those that the more conservative voices insist are being usurped by the Obama administration.

At this point, those who would do us harm, do not even need to be successful to change our way of life.

A simple idiotic attempt on one plane, and now the entire air travel system is in catastrophe mode.

Blogger Dave Miller said ... (1:31 PM) :

James, do you think so???

Blogger James' Muse said ... (2:14 PM) :

yeah...I so far haven't heard of anything ending per se...but it started to happen under the last administration, so ya never know...

Blogger dmarks said ... (7:35 AM) :

The satire needs to take a jab at Pelosi and her wasteful "queen of the world" personal air travel perks.

Seriously, I thought Candace Miller was way off base when she complained about the terrorist getting medical care and an attorney.

However, the attorney has already proven himself to be the scum of the earth by attempting to block the investigation and obstruct justice.

Dave- Candice Miller is, I am ashamed to admit, from my home state of Michigan. I'll be flying again near the end of Jan., but I think this will (mostly) have settled doen by then. Really, the only screw up by the US, IMHO, was not placing this guy on the no-fly list immediately when his own father voiced concern. I have a friend who is a flight attendant on this very route who was off that day for Christmas. Our TSA was not involved in the screening process. I think that anyone who buys a one way, paid in cash fare, and has no checked baggage should get the full on treatment by the TSA (or the Dutch screeners). Certainly Miller is an idiot for her comments, but I also think that if found guilty his penalty of a $250,000 fine and 20 years prison are woefully inadequate. that is less than $900 and 10 months prison for each of the people that he attempted to kill.
Really, it sounds as if little will change as far as getting to the airport 2 hrs early, waiting in line, etc. That whole not leaving your seat an hour before landing is stupid and that's why they backtracked on that. What do you do now? Wear Depends on an international flight? No blankets is stupid, too. Putting passengers thru this does nothing to make the plane safer. As in the Bush administration, the CIA again relies on their high tech gadgetry instead of the human assets needed to ferret these people out. I'll bet the FBI has the chops to do this job better. Naponitalino and her asinine "the system worked" comment make me think she needs to get the axe.

DMarks- I agree that all of these government types should fly on regular planes. I sat next to my congressman (in coach no less) on a flight from DC in 07. I have no beef with them flying first class if the flight is long. I have also run into Sander Levin going thru TSA screening and L Brooks Patterson, so I don't see why Pelosi needs her own plane.

In regard to the Christmas Day Bomber.. Shaw Kenawe of Progressive Eruptions SO moronically said in her blog this morning...
"Mr. Obama, IMHO, responded in a perfectly reasonable manner"

Dick Cheney accused President Barack Obama on Tuesday of “trying to pretend we are not at war” with terrorists, pointing to the White House response to the attempted sky bombing as reflecting a pattern that includes banishing the term “war on terror”

I have no doubt that Barry is very disappointed that his boy did not bring down the airliner, as it would have provided the perfect excuse for him to take even more control of the government and our lives.
Obama can't pretend to be anything but the Progressive Socialist Liberal

that he is and has surrounded himself with the same unAmerican type of Moonbocrats.
Obama is leading our nation in a far left direction that we do not want to go .
Our world is not yet ready to live in peace and harmony that the 60's envisioned ..

And as for you TAO, your cage has been cleaned, you can get back into it now.

Blogger Tim said ... (11:53 AM) :

Willie you are just another hater. Please go back to your "secure location" with your pal Dick Cheney. I sure you would have been clapping your hands had that plane went down so you could say "I told you so".

Blogger Dave Miller said ... (8:40 PM) :

Willie, first off, where in my post did I mention Shaw?

It seems as if people on the right have a fixation on Shaw that drives them to comment on her, or her views even when they are not being discussed.

Willie, when I write about Shaw, you are welcome to come here and comment about her. But until then, please control your trollish tendencies.

As for how the GOP feels about President Obama's response to the, I can't believe I am even writing this. the Underwear Bomber, he responded publicly a little faster than did then President bush with the Shoe Bomber.

As for the "War on Terror," President Obama and others in the Admin have stated numerous times that we are at war against Al Qaida.

What part of that are you struggling with? What part of that is Dick Cheney struggling with?

Besides, how do you wage war against a concept?

TAO< Happy New Year! I spent my day at the Rose Bowl watching a great football game between Ohio State and Oregon.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 PM) :

Willie,

Do I sense that you have made an association between President Obama and the Underwear Bomber? Is this an insinuation that Obama is Muslim, part of Al Quada or a terrorist? If so, prove it! Put up or shut up...I am tired of insinuation and no substance.

And could you kindly use the word "I" instead of "we" since there is no way that I want to be accidentally associated with you!

Sincerely,
Chelle Miller

Never said that you did!

However I felt a need to. I felt and I still do fell that it is people like her and her 2 lap dogs TAO and Truth101 that are going to be the cause of the downfall of this great nation.
They excuse every communist plot that our dear leader chooses to take this country into bankruptcy. And to lead us into 3rd worldism as well as into Socialism. Even when liberals see that Obama is a phony they still chose to follow him and that is getting to be pretty bad. He's as superficial as the fools who elected him.
An I will fight tooth and nail to stop people like them and if you chose not to then so be it
Most of us were screaming at the top of our lungs BEFORE the election that putting an inexperienced, unqualified, naive, unaccomplished, appeasement-oriented little community organizer in as President would GUARANTEE more terrorist attacks so why would anyone be surprised? This ain't rocket science folks!
Obama and his talentless misfit croniess have had this for a year now and I bet the bunch of spineless dimwits around him will still blame the next terrorist attack on Bush. Failure to take personal responsibility is a key liberal trait.

I love saying "I told you so”..

Thank you for your time and your consideration. See ya on the bread lines, I hope that you get a few crumbs..

Blogger TAO said ... (4:17 PM) :

Wee Willie Wannabee...

Then if you have something to say to Truth, TAO, or Shaw why not be a man and take your "paid for political hack" shtick straight to us?

Being that you are a 'consultant' I can only assume that you must have just gotten a contract to spew your cut and paste stupidity all over the internet...since your blog gets no traffic and you haven't posted one thing on it in the last three months...

Move on and leave the innocent folks alone....

Blogger Dave Miller said ... (9:39 PM) :

Well Wee Willie, you have sure given us a lot to respond to.

First off, who is the "most of us" you cited as screaming? Last I checked, Barack Obama was elected by a pretty sizable majority of the electorate. Now if what you are saying is that the majority of people who were doing the screaming did not vote, I will just cite cite the normal GOP response to this type of thing and say, as I believe, if you do not vote, don't complain.

Can you cite the multiple "communist" plots you say that President Obama is choosing to take this country into bankruptcy. Also, please explain how these "plots" are taking us into communism.

I would also like to point out that we had another inexperienced President when we were attacked on 9/11. Was his inexperience the reason we were attacked? Or is inexperience only a Presidential negative when we are talking about a Democratic President?

Finally two last thoughts for you Wee Willie. One, the owner/host of the blog gets to determine the topic of the day. Not the commenters. The very definition of commenter in this sense is to comment on the post.

It is the height of hubris to go to someone's blog, and cut and paste your own blog post there. That is what your post is for.

And two, don't come here to attack people. This is a civilized, hopefully intelligent blog, that you may or may not like or even agree with. But you do not get to come here in the future and attack people.

Intelligent dialogue about ideas is good. Attacking people directly, is not so good. TAO, Truth, and Shaw, are good folks. You may not agree with them, but that does not mean they are bad people.

This type of non-commenting commenting will be deleted in the future.

Blogger Tim said ... (10:14 AM) :

I don't know Dave. You may have to just turn on comment moderation. You ever notice that the most vicious attacks come from the Right? Sure, you get the occasional snarky comment from Liberals, but the real haters are almost always Neo Cons. I had to turn it on at my blog because I had this idiot that created a "pornstar" blogger ID and then just spouted sensless profanity at every turn. They hate us for not hating Obama.

Blogger Beth said ... (11:08 AM) :

While I agree with Tim (a first!) that "snarky" comments add nothing to the discussion, from my point of view when the moderation is on, it really messes with the flow of the discussion, because comments are not seen until the owner of the blog has a chance to post them. Just my opinion. I simply ignore the unnecessary comments and chalk them up to people who cannot actually debate ideas.

Blogger Dave Miller said ... (11:14 AM) :

Smart Girl, sometimes it is better to keep quiet and be thought an idiot, than to open your mouth, or in this case, your browser, and remove all doubt.

So I've deleted your comments.

Tim, I hope not. I am a firm believer in hearing the other side, but they must at least have a little decorum.

Blogger JoeBama "Truth 101" Kelly said ... (8:54 AM) :

Why would that guy attack me at your blog Dave. I'm not a frequent visitor. I should be. You're an excellent blogger.

I won't egg him on. You've got better things to do.
