Thank You Colin Powell

It seems as if each day brings another round of bad news for Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain.

First there was the relentless drumbeat of conservative intellectuals concerned about the selection of Sarah Palin, a hopelessly unprepared candidate for Vice President. Next came the economic meltdown that showed McCain at his erratic best.

And now this. Colin Powell. Former National Security Advisor. Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Former Army General. Purple Heart recepient. Bronze Star recepient. Former Secretary of State.

Colin Powell has endorsed Barack Obama for President of the United States of America.

Colin Powell believes an Obama Administration will be better for America, and the world, than an administration headed by John McCain.

And one of the reasons cited was a concern for McCain's judgement, partially based on the selection of Sarah Palin.

I find it hard to believe that Powell, even though he too [along with most of the political world]was wrong on Iraq, would put his country and the lives of millions of people at risk if he did not feel Obama was up to the job.

Colin Powell, one of the most respected men in America, has endorsed Barack Obama for President.

Today, a long day of travel for me on my way to Mexico City and then Oaxaca, is a good day!

The thing about General Powell is that he became a Republican hero under Bush Sr for his involvement in Desert Storm. But I've always suspected he was more of a centrist person, and therefore likely to sway with the political winds.

This is the problem the GOP created when they picked a candidate that really appealed to no one.

As for the judgment of The Marxist (Obama) in foreign policy, I surspect he will do some fast learning and pick some good people to handle the minutia. Otherwise, he'll go the way of Carter fast. I hope the latter is not the case, because the cost could be a city.

I haven't checked, but I suspect the left-leaning blogs are in a frenzy of excitement over this. To be honest, I am not shocked by the news as I have never viewed Powell as a stark conservative, in spite of his military background and involvement in the Bush administration.

I guess time will tell how much of a boon this is for Obama.

This article is funny. Talk about swaying...in the winds of baseball. McCain is just getting desperate now.

Enjoy.

It is funny that you refer to Obama as a Marxist Patrick. America has taken its biggest step towards Socialism ever in the virtual nationalization of our banking system. This under Bush and Hank Paulson. Supported by McCain and Obama. Better be careful about these sort of labels Patrick. A PDX ultra conservative radio guy managed to weasel himself onto Larry King Live. He used the "M" word and was hooted off the air by the conservative guests. Sadly, by this sort of name calling the neo-cons are making themselves extinct.

Gordon, you are up early today! Even McCain, who as you pointed out, supported the bailout, is calling Obama a socialist.

Said the pot to the kettle...

Blogger Patrick M said ... (8:08 AM) :

No argument with you on the bailout. In fact, if you want to read my obscenity laced tirade on it, here's the link. I expect this kind of crap from Democrats. I really blame the GOP for going along with it, and even pushing it on us.

It's not going to stop me with firing off the labels while there's an election in the balance, though. It was actually a response to liberals just attacking incessantly because I wasn't awed my their messiah. I tend to react irrationally to the irrational.

Oh, and in case you think I'm too angry:

*hug*

Yeah Patrick, I saw your hug. I am symbolically hugging 28 million people today in Mexico City.
