On The Road Again

It is the middle of June, summer is about to start, and guess what that means. I am in Mexico. For the fifteenth consecutive year, I will be spending the next few weeks serving the church in Mexico.

A couple of friends and I started this ministry, Adventures in Life, in October of 1992, led our first mission that November, and have been hard at it ever since. I am not sure that Grady, Paul, and I had any idea then what AIL would become, we just wanted to give people the chance to serve.

So here I am. In Ensenada until mid July when we move on to Guadalajara and Oaxaca. If you are the praying type, please remember us over the summer. There will be about 200 people serving over the next couple of months from a host of churches in the U.S. and Mexico. Over the summer we will be doing everything from building churches and houses, to holding Outreach Clubs, to helping train pastors.

Blessings to all of you and I will try and post some updates as I am able.

West Coast Brillance

The Ducks have won the Stanley Cup. Yep, you heard that right. The Ducks. Sorry Canada. Sorry Chicago, Boston, Philly, Jersey, New York and even Edmonton. Right now the center of the Hockey Universe is in Anaheim, California. Right down the street from Disneyland. Helene Elliott, Hockey Hall of Fame writer for the Los Angeles Times wrote a great commentary. It is a must read for any hockey fan.

For those of you who don't like hockey, go to a game. If you like sports, you'll love hockey, live. It sucks on television, but when you see it in person, you'll see what I mean. The coolness of the arena, the speed of the players, the grace, strength, and the sheer tenseness of a close game in the third period are hard to beat. Trust me.

So to the Ducks, congratulations on being the first team from out west to ever win Lord Stanley's Cup! You earned it.

In March of 1979, I was selected along with three other men to come to move to Las Vegas and open the first restaurants outside of California for Carl's Jr. I was only 20 years old, it was an adventure, and I was excited. My new wife, Chelle, and I lived there for the next 11 years and fell in love with the area.

After almost 18 years, we are returning to Las Vegas. It is still an adventure, I'm excited, but a little scared. When you are 20 and you make a big move, you have a lot of future in front of you. When you are almost 50, you have considerably less future to look at and as such, there is more worry.

But God is good, and for me, in control. At least most of the time. If I let Him, which is always a struggle.
