Vegas Craps Out Again... Sahara Hotel to Close

[the sahara hotel, scheduled to close may 15, 2011... from the las vegas sun]

I am frequently asked by friends and acquaintances how it is in Las Vegas and if things are improving.

Here's a couple of items that should help with that answer.

First up is an article that tells the story of our housing market. Almost 70% of all homes with mortgages in the Las Vegas Valley are under water.

And then, the Sahara Hotel and Casino, a longtime anchor at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, will be closing its doors in May.

Grim news. I didn't realize it was that bad there.

Hey Dave I have been toying with the idea of looking for a cheap condo in Reno. What is that area like? My primary interest would be for skiing the Lk. Tahoe area.

Tahoe is beautiful... the lake is spectacular and you are only a couple of hours from San Francisco.

You'll like the area... very low key but I hear it has great skiing...

About 5&1/2 hours from Vegas...

Tim, I'll rent from you too in the off season...

Used to be a neat little place. Back in the sixties, we passed through and stopped by one of the bars in one of the casinos.
About six folks sitting around having drinks and a
group came on and did some numbers. 'Up up and away in my big balloon"...which
a few years later I recognized as the Fifth Dimension. Of course these days you can gamble away nearly anywhere, but LV is
still the place for talent!
